Featured among the greatest drum and percussion festivals in the world, Batuka! Brasil is celebrating its 15th edition in 2017.

The Brazilian main event on drumset and percussion, and with fourteen editions and two CDs accomplished, the Batuka! Brasil fits its role as a national culture and international interchange diffuser, by combining concerts, workshops and performances of Brazilian and foreign artists.

From its first edition, the festival had already received some of the Brazilian music icons like the renowned Zimbo Trio, one of the most successful groups from the Bossa Nova era, the extraordinary Mantiqueira Big Band, Pedro Mariano, Caju e Castanha and the drummers Daniel Baeder, who played at the Cirque du Soleil, Paulo Zinner (Golpe de Estado/Rita Lee/Fickle Pickle) and João Barone (Paralamas do Sucesso). The Batuka! Brasil always enlightens the artist’s significance in constructing a Brazilian cultural biography.

Our guest performers from all over the world, reinforce the diversity always praised by the Brazilian people. Also worth of mention, the cultural interchange during the festival is an invaluable asset for music students and overall audience. Not only the presence of Brazilian artists strengthens the perception of our music but, the fact of having artists from other countries, promotes an exchanging of musical experiences among themselves and the public leading to a richer understanding of everyone’s musical background. All of this, along with the great music brought to the festival.

Among the artists who already performed at the Batuka! Brasil, there are some of the most influential drummers of the world such as Jim Chapin, Dave Weckl, Will Calhoun, John Balckwell Jr., Marco Minnemann, Sam Aliano, Zoro, Robby Ameen, Johnny Rabb and Virgil Donati.

The Batuka! Master is also a part of the festival’s program. It was created focused in revealing the new talents of the Brazilian drumset and has achieved a great success! This year the contest is going to award an male and a female drummer. Among some of these gifted drummers is Rafael Barata (Edu Lobo/Angela Ro Ro), Igor Willcox (Família Lima), Elóy Casagrande (André Matos/Sepultura) and Sandro Moreno (Zé Ramalho/Tete Espíndola). The Batuka! Master isn't going to happen on the 15º Anniversary ediiton of Batuka! Brasil. But it will come back to the program in the 16ª edition.

In 2017, Dom Famularo will perform for the third time at Batuka! Brasil. It will be Sergio Bellotti’s and the bassist Wes Wirth’s debut. They are performing the CHANTaSONIC project. Besides the international guests, the festival will also host great Brazilian artists: Christiano Rocha, Charles Gavin, Vera Figueiredo, Giba Favery, Pithy Cajonero, Mauricio Leite & Time Out – featuring Celso Pixinga (bass) and Mello Jr. (guitar), Daniel Baeder (Brazil/Japan), Bruno Felipini, the Sepultura’s drummer Eloy Casagrande and the Batuka! Band, formed by Chico Willcox (bass) and Ricardo Castellanos (piano) with special guests: Dom Famularo, Vera Figueiredo, Sergio Bellotti and Daniel Baeder.

In this edition, the festival will be realized in Brasilia as well. Featuring Dom Famularo, Vera Figueiredo, Sergio Bellotti, Wes Wirth and the local host, Daniel Oliveira, this will be the first edition of Batuka! Brasil that will take place out of São Paulo city.
